It doesn’t get more classic than a Caribbean summer getaway, but as everyone rushes to take in that ultimate tropical experience, what you might’ve hoped to be a quiet, relaxing holiday can turn into an overcrowded affair that can be enjoyed only by the most energetic of travelers.

So what happens if you still want to lounge around on some pristine Caribbean beach but would love to avoid all the chaos and noise?

You go to one of the many underrated islands scattered across the region, three of which just became that much more accessible.

In response to travelers’ growing demand for routes to some once-overlooked destinations, major carriers like American Airlines, Delta, and JetBlue are finally introducing more and more flights that take you to these dreamy islands faster and cheaper than ever.

That’s why, if you’ve been thinking about visiting either St. Lucia, St. Kitts, or St. Martin for a while now, this year is the perfect time to finally book those tickets!

Saint Lucia

Many travelers think that St. Lucia is as close to heaven on Earth as you can get – between that and the fact that the island was named one of the Caribbean’s safest hubs at the beginning of the year, it’s clear that this is a destination you won’t want to remove from your bucket list anytime soon.

As a matter of fact, now might be the best time to finally see for yourself what the fuss is all about.

Both American Airlines and JetBlue (which, coincidentally, is the best-performing budget carrier in the country) have expanded their St. Lucia schedules, adding a total of 40,000 new seats for U.S. travelers looking to fly to the island this summer.

Most of these new flights depart either from New York, Boston, or Miami, so chances are you’ll get to pick and choose a place and time that fits your itinerary the best.

Starting at just a little over $300 for a round-trip ticket, these carriers promise to take you right to the iconic Pitons, the Anse Mamin Beach, and the Diamond Botanical Gardens – just remember to bring a high-quality camera along, you’ll want to do the insane views here justice.

Saint Kitts

The larger of the two islands in the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis promises some much-needed peace and quiet without ever crossing the line to “boring.”

Here, you’ll get to lounge around on the pristine sand of South Friars Bay, hike all the way to Mount Liamuiga, explore the fascinating Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park, take in the atmosphere of the annual St. Kitts Music Festival, and even go on a picturesque journey with the island’s Scenic Railway.

How do you get to do all that?

By taking advantage of the newly-introduced flights from American Airlines.

This summer, the industry giant is launching two nonstop flights to St. Kitts from New York and Charlotte, an operation set to last through at least August 31st, so consider your summer plans made.

If you want to hold off on that St. Kitts trip a bit longer, Delta will also introduce some new flights to the island this December, so keep your eyes peeled for updates.

Saint Martin

Those looking for the ultimate culturally immersive experience this summer can’t go wrong with St. Martin, the French side of an island that holds the same name where you’ll feel like you’re experiencing both a Caribbean retreat and a fun European city break.

Not only is the food here exquisite, but between beaches like Orient Bay and Grand Case and the many, many duty-free shops scattered across Marigot (the capital), you can rest assured that you’ll never feel bored on the island.

And this year, you’ll get to see all that for yourself thanks to the new New York to St. Martin flight that was just introduced by American Airlines.

Now, this route is set to start operating on December 7th and it’ll run once a week.

Even though that might stall your plans a bit, it gives you plenty of time to plan that dream Caribbean getaway of yours.
